With two days before the District Track meet in Bigfork senior Trent Thompson is throwing the best he has all season. After making news last week for breaking Plain's shot put record the senior went to the most competitive meet of the season, Archie Roe in Kalispell, and came away with two first place finishes in the shot put and discus and grabbed a personal record in the javelin.

Keep in touch
On June 24th and 25th, I attended the State Administration and Veterans Affairs (SAVA) Interim Committee meeting in Helena where we discussed two of the state's retirement programs as directed by House Bill 659. There were also a number of requests by various stake holders and state agencies brought before the committee in an effort to get our input on their requests and our support in requesting bill drafts on their behalf.

Chamber Chatter
Ma Nature is playing havoc with our precious 3 month window of opportunity for the tourists. Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park STILL isn’t open making it a shorter season than ever for our friends in Hungry Horse, West Glacier and other towns on the fringe of the park. If there is a silver lining in this moisture, it might be that the visitors stay in our neighborhood longer. When you see out of state plates and you’re comfortable talking to strangers (cold-calling, in the sales world), greet them and ask how their vacation here is going! Suggest that they stop at the St. Regis Visitors Center for a plethora of family activities that we have to offer. And if this is outside your comfort zone, just smile, wave and say, “Howdy!” as that will exhibit the charm they know Montanans have.
We the People: firearm related bills
There are several firearms related bills awaiting executive action by the Senate Judiciary Committee. It is anticipated we will be doing that on Monday, March 21st. I will give a brief description of each bill. House Bill 271: “Exception to concealed weapon offense if eligible to apply”, says that if you are eligible to apply for a concealed carry permit you may carry without an official permit. If you are able to qualify for a permit by having completed a firearms training course or military training you may carry concealed, no permit required. A hunter’s safety course is not adequate. It also means that those who are ineligible may not carry concealed; felons, etc. Basically under current law, you do not need a concealed carry permit outside of cities and towns, but you do when you cross the border line of a city or town. The State of Vermont has a similar law. I am supporting this bill. Judging by the correspondence I am receiving on this one, the overwhelming majority of Montanans want this bill passed.
