Lumber truck overturns near Paradise
Debris from an overturned lumber truck littered Highway 200 in front of Paradise Gardens after an accident on Tuesday just before 2:30 p.m. The wreckage left the highway closed for hours as crews cleaned up the mess.
MDEQ talks Superfund
The head of the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and several other representatives from the organization met with the Mineral County Commissioners and other interested parties at the commissioner’s meeting room in Superior Wednesday to discuss concerns about listing the Flat Creek Mine area as a Superfund site.

Charles James Antos, Sr.
Charles James Antos, Sr. age 78 of DeBorgia, passed away on February 16, 2008 in Missoula. He was born in Chicago on October 22, 1930 to Olga Antos and was married on June 20, 1959 to June. He loved hunting, fishing and sports but most of all family. He is survived by his wife June, son Thomas and Linda Otzwirk, daughter Deb and Jim Tatowski, son Mike and Lori Antos, daughter Lynn and Dennis Startin, son Chuck and June Antos and many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters and one son. There will be a Celebration of Life in his honor on August 16, 2008 in Haugan on Savenak Road at 2 p.m. followed by a pot luck pig roast.

Corvallis - Marlene (Clark) Johnson, 73, of Corvallis passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at home with her husband Myron by her side after a battle with cancer. She was delivered by her Grandma Haley on July 12, 1934 in Stevensville the daughter of Clayton Boone and Helen Mabel (Haley) Jenkins.
Smear campaigns, trust and the public good
The election season in Montana is off to a pretty rocky start, at least if civility matters to anyone. First the Montana primary election saw the “conservative” wing of the Republican Party defeat the “socialist” wing in a smear campaign pretty much unprecedented in my experience; then Republican State Representative John Sinrud took a shot at “environmental radicals and their pet politicians”, meaning Democrats. At least Sinrud was targeting the political opposition. I don’t recall reading of the Democrats eating their own, but just because it didn’t make the news doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.
