Help offered to get Marsy's Law into action

During last year’s election, Montanans voted Yes to CI-116, Marsy’s Law, also known as the victim’s bill of rights. The law also passed in North and South Dakota joining California and Illinois. It gives victims of crime rights equal to those accused and those convicted of a crime. The law goes into effect July 1, 2017.

Montana’s general deer and elk season opened on Oct. 21 and hunters are grabbing their rifles and orange gear and heading into the mountains. The radical proposal by the American Prairie Reserve (APR) to fundamentally shift long-established grazing practices on 250,000 acres of public property ought to be rejected by the Bureau of Land Management. Not only would the proposal cause destruction of rangeland and wildlife habitat, ultimately the APR represents a fundamental threat to the Montana ranching families who’ve made this area their home for generations.

A sewage pipe which crosses the Clark Fork River in St. Regis sprung a leak on Thursday, Jan. 10. Members of the St. Regis Sewer District immediately shut off the line with minimal spillage into the river. Chairman of the St. Regis Sewer District, Jerry Jones, said they acted as soon as they saw the pressure drop in the line and all responsible parties were notified immediately including the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Fish and Game; and the Montana Corps. Of Engineers.

Hospital board hears draft audit report

SUPERIOR - During its March 27th meeting, the Mineral Community Hospital Board received a draft audit report showing a $196,448 operating loss for last fiscal year. Tom Dingus, Spokane CPA who presented the report, noted the hospital had 28 days of cash at the end of last fiscal year compared to 66 days of cash for Critical Access Hospitals in the western U.S.

Loads of laffy taffy at egg hunt

The Alberton Easter egg hunt is an annual event where kids can participate up to age 10. There are three age groups for the egg hunt; children up to age three, four to six, and seven to 10 years of age. Most of the eggs that kids are hunting for are filled with candy, and other eggs are filled with a paper slip saying a name of a prize on it.
