SANDERS COUNTY - New state laws require that students entering 7th grade receive the tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine. In addition, students in kindergarten through 12th grade must have two doses of the of varicella (chickenpox) vaccine.

On Wednesday, Feb. 15 the Sanders County Fair Commission held their monthly meeting to discuss the last meeting, non-agenda items, old business, new business, and the current financial situation. Present for the meeting were; Fair Manager Dede Steinbach, Vice Chairman Jenny Garrison, Chairman Chris A. McGuigan, Wade Rehbein, Secretary Ruth Hamilton, Jim Newman. Roberta Smith was not present for the meeting.

Upcoming pesticide training and certification courses

In Montana, the State Department of Agriculture issues private pesticide applicator’s licenses for people interested in purchasing and applying restricted-use pesticides to property they rent, own or lease; or applying general-use pesticides on lands of their immediate neighbors. Pesticide is a collective term including herbicides, insecticides and rodenticides. MSU Extension coordinates the educational component of the licensing process. Commonly applied restricted use products include the herbicide Tordon 22k and strychnine baits used for northern pocket gopher control.

Across from the front door lobby at Mineral Community Hospital, there’s a room with an ominous yellow warning sign with red letters which reads, “Caution: Do Not Open, Radiation Area”. What’s behind that closed door is a large donut shaped machine with a gurney-style bed called a “scanning couch”.
