The Missoula Children’s Theatre rolled into Plains last week, and with in seven days had 60 students putting on a “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” production.

Twenty-five students from Sanders County competed in the 24th annual county spelling bee last Thursday afternoon at the Thompson Falls Senior Citizen Center.

Lady Cats get pounced by Bigfork in divisionals

After finishing third at districts, the Lady Cats headed to Pablo for the divisional tournament. The girls played three teams during the tournament. It was a loss against Bigfork on Friday that ended their season.

2/6/11 9:13 p.m. A Plains woman called police stating that she and her boyfriend had gotten into a fight and he left her residence intoxicated in her car without her permission to take the car.  The woman later reported the car stolen.

As this year’s gardening season approaches, local farmers and agricultural experts want to urge home gardeners to be aware of the risk of late blight, a devastating disease that reared its ugly head in the valley last year. Characterized by black colored wounds or abnormalities on the leaf and stem, late blight is the same devastating pathogen responsible for the Irish potato famine of the late 1840s. In the Mission Valley, tons of potatoes were lost last year, Montana State University extension agent Jack Stivers said.

Savage Heat handle Tigers again

History repeated itself as the Savage Heat lost to Charlo, and bested St. Regis for the second time this season. Hot Springs (2-5, conf., 6-8 ovr.)  has now won three of their last four games heading into the heart of their conference schedule with only two weeks remaining until districts.

Weekend victories over Troy, 43-19, and Eureka, 44-36, gave the Thompson Falls girls their first back-to-back wins this season. With a victory in either of their final two conference games, the Ladyhawks can guarantee they will enter the District 7-B tournament in no lower than third place.

It was a fast-paced game Thursday night at home as the Alberton Lady Panthers took on the Superior Lady Bobcats. Fans on one side of the gym were dressed in maroon and white, while the Superior fans were donned in red and blue. It was a clash of the two county teams and Superior would be the victor.
