Dispatches from the fire lines in New Mexico
I arrived at the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon fires in North Central New Mexico on May 24 to relieve Ron Granger, owner and operator of Leviathan Inc., a type 1 water tender contracted with the Forest Service. A type 1 water tender is the largest type of water tender used by the Forest Service on wild land fires.

Member of meth conspiracy sentenced to 30 years in prison
The defendant from a drug bust made in Mineral County was sentenced by the U.S. District Court on Jan. 3, 2018. Chase Ryan Storlie, 33, of Deer Lodge was convicted as part of a conspiracy to distribute up to 20 pounds of methamphetamine through Deer Lodge each month between January 2016 and January 2017. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison with five years supervised release and $100 surcharge for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute the drug.

The Superior Ambulance Service and the Mineral County Sheriff’s Department, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration, will host a ‘drug take back’ event on April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held at the ambulance facility, which is located across from Tamarack Clinic in Superior.
