There were no injuries in a fire late last Monday on River Road West in Plains that burnt a house completely to the ground. But house owner Louis Johnston not only lost his home, but everything in it, along with his dog and $5,000 cash.

Several units from the Frenchtown Fire Department responded to a late-night house fire in Alberton. The home was located at 420 Railroad Ave., across the street from the Alberton Community Church.

There were no injuries in a fire late last Monday on River Road West in Plains that burnt a house completely to the ground. But house owner Louis Johnston not only lost his home, but everything in it, along with his dog and $5,000 cash.
We the people: Session half way over
We are now past the halfway point of the session, where all non-revenue bills which have passed the Senate have been sent to the House and all approved House bills sent to the Senate. One thing I have not heard much about in the discussions on state funding is the potential for global economic problems to have a negative influence on state funding; for example, we are at war in the Middle East, gas prices in the country are soaring, and Montana’s development is down. The remainder of the session should be interesting, and I look forward to seeing how it all shakes out.

PLAINS - The young Trotter basketball squad had a victory at home Thursday night and a rough game on the road at Frenchtown; however, they look good to go for the 7-B District Tournament. While the Horsemen’s place in the tournament hung by the thread of a game against Eureka last night after a loss to Frenchtown over the weekend (results not available at time of press due to timeliness).

The Lolo National Forest last week issued a final decision notice for a portion of the Redd Bull Project, located on the Superior Ranger District south of St. Regis between Interstate 90 and the Montana/Idaho border within the Dry, Cold, Little Joe, Twomile, and Ward Creek drainages in Mineral County.
