GEAR UP program hosts activities to increase interest in science
Next week, middle school students from some of Montana GEAR UP’s 18 partnering school districts will take part in activities designed to increase their knowledge of, and interest in, science through the avenues of nature, poetry, and art when they attend spectrUM Discovery Area’s Science Camp. Arlee School District will host the faculty and staff who will travel from the Missoula campus to show camp participants how to engineer puppets with moving parts, create robots using a variety of technologies, and explore chemistry through cooking.

Chloe Youde and Brenden Vanderwall sit in an almost empty classroom at the Paradise School Wednesday as their teacher Shana Smith walks them through the lesson plans. The school plans to close its doors on May 24 after over a century of providing education to its students.

Hot Springs holds meth meeting
HOT SPRINGS - Tuesday night marked the tenth meeting Hot Springs residents have had in the Public Library to start combating what they see as a prevalent meth/drug problem in the area.

Clark Fork gets volleyball, football wins
The Clark Fork Lady Mountain Cats plucked the Valley Christian Eagles during volleyball play in Missoula On Oct. 4, 26-24; 25-15; 26-24. In 24 team kills, Emmah Baughman led the way with 8. Madison Mask once again led in team assists with 16 out of 19 and Margaret Parkin had 13 out of 47 team digs. Out of 7 team aces, Sorren Reese had 3, and she had one of the teams two blocks, the other block was Cassie Green.

It was an even par week for the Noxon Lady Devils volleyball crew, as they fell to Western 14C conference leader Charlo Friday night at home, then traveled to St. Regis and swept the Lady Tigers Saturday evening.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks reopened all portions of the Blackfoot and Clark Fork Rivers that were closed late last week due to danger from power lines in the river after the July 24 severe storm.
