Bill Merriman turns 90

Bill Merriman of Superior had a warm reception when around 37 friends and family members surprised him with a 90th birthday party at Whipped Up! in Superior. His party was on Oct. 5 to celebrate his birthday, which was on Oct. 9, and in addition to cake and ice cream they enjoyed their choice of a chicken or roast beef dinner.

Even in cold weather, get out and play!

With frigid temperatures outside, it may be hard to get motivated to bundle up and get some fresh air with your kids. This can result in a bad case of “cabin fever”. Outdoor play is not only essential for healthy brain development in children, it is also fun. But even though many parents believe outdoor play is beneficial, fewer children are spending time outside. Researchers have looked into this and have identified several reasons parents “keep” kids indoors including safety concerns and time constraints.

On Thursday night in Superior, Class C, Clark Fork Mountain Cats challenged themselves with non-conference games against Class B, Thompson Falls. The Cats took a big loss, 70-30, as the boy’s faced their towering adversaries, with half the team over six foot tall, including six foot, five-inch McKenzie Holt. Cat eighth grader, Carson Callison at five feet, ten-inches, was no match during the game starting tip-off against Holt.

The Alberton branch of the Mineral County Library is holding a fundraiser on Jan. 27 called “The Armchair Traveler Wine Tasting.” It’s from 4-7 p.m. at the Alberton Community Center. Tickets are currently available. The event will include a wine and cheese/chocolate pairing, with wine provided by Hidden Legends Winery, Ten Spoons Winery and Missoula Winery.
