Train crash dumps 1,456 tons of soybeans

Waves of soybeans rolled into the Clark Fork River after a train derailed and dumped 19 cars along the bank. The accident happened at 5:22 a.m. Oct. 22 about 2.5 miles west of Plains. One train car was partially submerged in the water and several others were severely damaged. According to a company spokesperson, there were no injuries and no hazardous wastes dumped.

Truck accidents continue to hit I-90

The Montana Highway Patrol reported 34 incidents between Feb. 26 and Mar.5, as snow and icy conditions continue to sweep down Interstate 90 in Mineral County. Several incidents occurred Sunday, Feb. 26, and Saturday, Mar. 4 where higher elevations were hit with heavy snow fall. Especially hazardous conditions were reported on Lookout Pass.

All season, the Noxon Red Devil’s boys track had individual participants become a fixture in top-five finishes and those individuals continued to excel at the Montana High School Activities Association Western C Divisional Meet Thursday and Friday at Frenchtown High School.

The Environmental Protection Agency conducted a five-year review of Superior last week. Residents were interviewed and EPA officials explained their review process of ongoing protectiveness of Superior’s cleanup and soils displacement regulation at their office located in the Old School on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Locomotive catches fire near Alberton

A Montana Rail Link diesel locomotive caught fire near Alberton on Tuesday, August 9. The fire was reported at 5:30 p.m. and several local emergency personnel responded. The train was located near the end of Plateau Road, just west of town. It was heading east when the fire broke out in the second engine.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING Proposed Health Insurance Rates for 2018 The Commissioner of Securities and Insurance (CSI), Montana State Auditor, Matt Rosendale, will host two public meetings regarding recently filed rates by Montana health insurers. These meetings provide the public the opportunity to participate in government by expressing any comments that the public may have regarding the proposed 2018 rate increases for health insurance. The Commissioner has invited Montana individual and small group health insurers to be present at the Public Meeting. Montanans are encouraged to attend and/or provide comments on the proposed rates. The meetings will be held in two locations: July 24, 2017, at 5:30 p.m., Montana State University, Billings, (Room LA 205) July 26, 2017, at 1: 00 p.m., State Capitol, Helena (Room 137) The proposed Montana Health Insurance rates can be found on the CSI website, www.csimt.gov. Additionally, if the person receiving this notice cannot attend either public meeting, the person can email their comments to CSIPublicComment@mt.gov through August 1, 2017. The Public Meeting in Helena on July 26, 2017, will also be live-streamed over the internet via www.leg.mt.gov for those unable to attend in person. The Commissioner of Securities and Insurance will make reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities who wish to participate in this public meeting.
