Winter weather advisories had been issued for the entire western half of Montana starting last Tuesday and continued throughout the week of Dec. 26. Numerous vehicle accidents were strewn across Interstate 90, as well as surrounding areas, as a result of the hazardous driving conditions, including a collision between a passenger vehicle and a Missoula County plow truck on Dec. 28 near mile marker 87.

'Cardiac Ready Communities' hoping to take hold in Mineral County

The Local Emergency Planning Committee held their monthly meeting on Nov. 3 in Superior. During the meeting, Janet Trethewet gave a brief presentation on “Cardiac Ready Communities” initiative. The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (MDPHHS) received a $3.2 million gift from the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust last year. The funds have been used to implement this three-year initiative.

Gianforte received nearly 60 percent of Mineral County vote

Montanan’s can finally take a sigh of relief as the special election for Montana’s lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives is over. After 85 days of campaigning, Republican Greg Gianforte won with 50% of the vote with 189,473 ballots cast in his favor. Democrat Rob Quist received 44% with 166,483 votes, and Libertarian Mark Wicks received 6% with 21,509 votes.

Three accidents occurred within a few hours Monday afternoon all on Highway 200. The first was a few miles west of Dixon, the second was an overturned semi-trailer in the Perma Curves and the third happened near Paradise. All three accidents resulted in temporary closures of Highway 200.

2017 Medicare Parts A & B Premiums and Deductibles Announced

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced on Nov. 10, the 2017 premiums for the Medicare inpatient hospital (Part A) and physician and outpatient hospital services (Part B) programs. Medicare is a health insurance programs for people age 65 or older. Medicare’s open enrollment period is Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. These dates are when all people with Medicare can change their Medicare health plans and prescription drug coverage for the following year.

The Lolo National Forest has issued the draft decision notice for the Cruzane Mountain project, a 3,790-acre project located on the Superior Ranger District in Mineral County, about three miles west of Haugen and northeast of Saltese.

The Superior Science Club took a trip at the end of April “that will not be forgotten any time soon” said their advisor Beau Servo. After a year of fundraising, seven students went to Yellowstone National Park, the Ringing Rocks outside Butte, Quake Lake, and the Museum of the Rockies.
