On Monday, January 28th, State Administration will be hearing House Bill (HB) 214.  This bill will require that the POW/MIA Flag be displayed with the flag of the United States of America at the State Capitol, any building that serves as the location of a state district court, any building that serves as the location of a city or town hall for an incorporated city or town and any building that serves as the main administrative building of a county.

Applicants, projects sought for County Resource Advisory Committee

Mineral County and Forest Service officials are soliciting applications from individuals to fill several positions on the Mineral County Resource Advisory Committee (RAC). The committee is responsible for making recommendations on projects that provide benefit to Forest Service land within Mineral County. Funding and administration for Mineral County RAC projects are provided under the authority of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act.

NOTICE OF SALE GOOD NEIGHBOR AUTHORITY Department of Natural Resources & Conservation Timber Sale The GNA Elk Gem Timber Sale is located within Sections 11, 12, 13, 14, 24, T25N - R34W on the Kootenai National Forest. Approximately 16,468 tons, consisting of mixed conifer sawlogs, are offered for sale. Sealed bids will be opened at the Department of Natural Resources & Conservation, 2705 Spurgin Road, Missoula, Montana on (October 26, 2018; 2:00 pm). Bids may be hand delivered or mailed and will be accepted any time prior to the bid opening. DNRC recommends that bidders contact the Forestry Division (406-542-4300) prior to the bid opening to ensure that your bid has been received. Bids must be accompanied by a deposit of ($11,105.00), representing 5% of the minimum bid value of the sale in cashier's check, certified check, bank money order or bank draft to be applied to the first sale invoice for the successful bidder. Bid bonds will be accepted and, for the successful bidder, will be closed upon execution of the Timber Sale Contract and Timber Sale Bond. The sale will be awarded to the highest responsible bidder. If the successful bidder is unable to execute the contract within 30 calendar days from the date the sale is awarded, the bid deposit will be retained by the Department as liquidated damages. The right is reserved to reject any or all bids. Locals come together

PARADISE – Paradise School, which closed its doors in May 2013 due to an inadequate number of students, has potential for a second life. A group of interested individuals from Paradise and Plains have formed the Paradise School Preservation Committee. Their vision is to create a visitor center, arts center and community center in the century old historic building. The multi-use facility would serve the potential for creating economic opportunity within the community and Sanders County.

Last week the legislative interim committees I am assigned to held three days of public hearings on a number of environmental issues including Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks’ (FWP) proposal to increase hunting and fishing license fees, ongoing analysis of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes (CSKT) Water Compact, the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) new rule seeking increased federal control over state waters,  and a draft report on SJ-15 Montana’s study of federal land management.

County Community Development meeting wrap
