StoryCorps comes to Alberton
Elementary students in Alberton have been working on a community service project, designed to bring people closer together. It’s “Alberton Stories: A Collection of Stories from Alberton Montana.” Based on a nonprofit organization called StoryCorps, these students interviewed community members and then shared their stories.

Community Garden hosts workshop and installs water system
On Monday, April 22, the Plains Community Garden sponsored a seed-starting workshop. The meeting was well attended and everyone had the opportunity to pot up tomatoes and other transplants and to plant pepper, lettuce and other seeds for early starts in the garden.

The Mineral County Community Potlucks will resume Jan. 12 and Feb. 9, 2019, at 6 p.m. Dinners will be held in the 4-H building on the Mineral County Fairgrounds. Join family and friends for an evening of food and a 30-minute program of interest.

Community theater a success
ALBERTON – The curtain went up last weekend on the first community theater production of its kind in Mineral County as residents of Alberton, with some help from experienced thespians, put on the original play, Briar Rose.

The Sanders County Community Development organization held a meeting Nov. 12 to discuss ways to get jobs and people to come into the county.

Community Notes
The annual Mineral Community Hospital Health Fair is Saturday, May 12, with vendors who are excited to share their services to Mineral County. There will be live demonstration of telemedicine between Providence St. Patrick Hospital and Mineral Community Hospital. This has become, literally, a life saver for patients in rural settings. The tele stroke equipment at Mineral Community Hospital has made a significant difference for several patients this year alone. Partnership Health Center-Mineral County will have their dentist on hand because many residents aren’t even aware that dentistry exists here anymore.

Alberton man helps restore communications after Hurricane Maria hits Puerto Rico
When Alberton resident Bryce Nordgren heard about Hurricane Maria he didn’t think he would get a front row seat to the disaster that struck Puerto Rico on September 20. But two weeks later was standing on a highway which had been pummeled by 154 mph winds.

New youth magazine focuses on local health issues
Last week, Mineral County residents received a new magazine in their mailbox called YC, Youth Connections. It was filled with articles for kids like “The Secret to Successful Kids” and “The 40 Developmental Assets: Positive Identity.”

Slater talks education
THOMPSON FALLS – Members of the Thompson Falls business community assembled at the First Baptist Annex off Highway 200 for the monthly chamber of commerce meeting.

St. Regis School weight room open to the public
Over the summer, St. Regis School converted the old bus barn into a weight room which is available for community use. It comes complete with weights, tread machines and exercise bikes. Todd Fischer will be the facility manager and the hours will be 6:45 to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon.

4-H Club sock drive a success
For the past four weeks, the South Side Sparks 4-H Club in Plains has held a sock drive to collect socks and other undergarments for community members in need.
Railroad Day coming to Alberton
ALBERTON - The event known as Railroad Day is set to kick off in Alberton this weekend and not only will the community be celebrating its rich, railroad heritage, it will also be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the occasion.
