Boom town supported railroad in early 1900s
“Bullet, belt buckle, button,” the metal detector’s screen reads various items buried some seven feet beneath the earth. Forest Service Archeologist Erika Karuzas continues to wave the detector over an area that most believe is the location of an old cemetery. Located on a hillside covered with 100-year-old lodge pole pine overlooking Interstate 90.

Cedar Creek road relocation almost complete
Before a railroad was built next to Cedar Creek, the 20-mile stream meandered through the forest and served as prime habitat for the bull trout and westslope cutthroat trout, the creek's native species.

THOMPSON FALLS- Clowns, trapeze artists, performers on tall unicycles and big cats under the big top entertained a standing room only crowd on Saturday in Thompson Falls. Dazzling the crowd with acts varying from humorous to dangerous, the Culpepper and Merriweather Circus made the stop for the only two shows in Sanders County this year.

Third Annual Holiday Stroll gets locals in the mood for Christmas
For the first time the Wells Fargo Holiday Stroll was held inside the Old Schoolhouse Gym. It was the third annual event where 14 local non-profit groups had tables set up selling products and had information about their organization’s mission. Previously the event had been held on the main floor of the Old Schoolhouse but that space is now being used by a new cafe called “Whipped Up Montana.”

Homecoming spirit invades Superior
It was homecoming for Superior last week with daily fun leading up to the culmination of a parade and football game on Friday, Sept. 15. Students were asked to dress up each day starting with Dynamic Duo on Monday, Patriotic Day on Tuesday, Wednesday was Color Day and Thursday was Camouflage Day and Friday was Spirit Day.

MDT proposes rehabilitation of bridge near Trout Creek on Hwy 200
TROUT CREEK - The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to rehabilitate the bridge over the Clark Fork River on Highway 200 located approximately one mile northwest of Trout Creek in Sanders County. The project begins at the intersection of Highway 200 and Blue Slide Road, reference post 27.9 and extends east for approximately 0.5 miles ending near reference post 28.4.
FWP sets time restrictions for Clark Fork anglers
In an effort to protect fish from the stress of low stream flows and high water temperatures, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will prohibit fishing from 2p.m. until midnight on parts of the Clark Fork and all of the Bitterroot Rivers, excluding the East and West Forks, beginning Thursday, July 25.
