Plains woman talks hair with Hillary
One of the highlights reported in the news of Senator Hillary Clinton’s visit to Missoula had nothing to do with her stance on taxes, her thoughts on the war in Iran or even her views of global warming — it was her hair. And all because of a comment by a Plains woman.
Didn't come up with the same planning board results
I read Ron Olfert’s letter in the May 1st Ledger and, after reading what Ron wrote, decided to read Title 76 of Montana Code Annotated. I find it strange that I did not come away with the same understanding of a growth policy that Ron presented in his letter. For instance, Ron states “… a growth policy must be implemented. The implementation document is the zoning law …” 76.1.601(3)(f) states a growth policy must include an implementation strategy that includes: (i) a timetable for implementing the growth policy; (ii) a list of conditions that will lead to the revision of the growth policy; and (iii) a timetable for reviewing the growth policy at least once every five years and revising the policy if necessary. But 76-1-601(2) states: “The extent to which a growth policy addresses the elements listed in subsection (3) is at the full discretion of the governing body.” This means (3)(f), the implementation strategy, doesn’t have to be considered by the governing body.

A boy's will is the wind's will: Fire everywhere but not in your sector
SANDERS COUNTY - Thursday I sat in the back of a Ford Super Duty DNRC Engine as two state employees patrolled for fires and checked on extinguished sites. I witnessed first hand what it means to be on call for fire patrol, where your area of the country burns nearly everywhere, but not in your sector.

An update from Senator Fielder
What do you suppose would happen if each of us did more instead of expecting someone else to do all the good things that need to be done? What if we each did all we can do to help ourselves and help others? Charity would become contagious, popular, and ironically, maybe even less necessary. To those of you who already give instead of take, encourage instead of criticize, or even smile instead of scowl, thank you! These are shining examples of the kinds of Faith, Hope, and Charity we need more of year round. Charity isn’t just about money. It’s a form of love through selfless giving of time, kindness, or resources.
An update from Rep. Ingraham
For young and old alike, we have ushered in a New Year, 2014, one that will be filled with opportunities, changes and untold challenges as we prepare for upcoming elections and global situations that impact us here in America. Letters to the Editor - April 10, 2013
The phrase “procedural due process” refers to the aspects of the Due Process Claus that apply to the procedure of arresting and trying persons who have been accused of crimes and to any other government action that deprives an individual of life, liberty, or property. Procedural due process limits the exercise of power by the state and federal governments by requiring that they follow certain procedures in criminal and civil matters. In cases where an individual has claimed a violation of due process rights, courts must determine whether a citizen is being deprived of “life, liberty, or property,” and what procedural protections are “due” to that individual.

Thompson Falls Chamber meets
Support of Candidate
When I first heard that Ron Olfert was going to run as an Independent, my first comment to one of his supporters was that I would have advised him not to run as a “spoiler.” In other words, I was thinking that his political future could be put in jeopardy if his write-in votes as an independent were to cause the so-called “nominated” Republican to lose to the Democrat; that Republicans would remember that as a betrayal and never support him in any future races.
Meet the candidates for state legislature: Gordon Hendrick
Back in 1988, Gordon Hendrick achieved official citizenship. Even though he has spent most of his life in the United States, he had one reason for obtaining citizenship and that was so he could help the state of Montana. Immediately after becoming a citizen, he was a town councilman and then served as mayor for twelve years. For the last five years, he is now on his sixth, has served in the state legislature for House District 14. Back in August of 2008, Hendrick had said that he would end his time with the state legislative, but has now decided that with the economy in the state that he is in, his experience will be essential for the coming term.
