NOTICE OF SALE Department of Natural Resources & Conservation Timber Sale The 28 Mile Timber Sale is located within Section 36, T25N-R27W, on the State's Plains Unit. Approximately 20,795 tons, consisting of Douglas-fir sawlogs, are offered for sale. Sealed bids will be opened at the Department of Natural Resources & Conservation, 2705 Spurgin Road, Missoula, Montana on May 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Bids may be hand delivered or mailed and will be accepted any time prior to the bid opening. DNRC recommends that bidders contact the Trust Land Management Division (406-542-4300) prior to the bid opening to ensure that your bid has been received. Bids must be accompanied by a deposit of $30,766.00, representing 5% of the minimum bid value of the sale in cashier's check, certified check, bank money order or bank draft to be applied to the first sale invoice for the successful bidder. Bid bonds will be accepted and, for the successful bidder, will be closed upon execution of the Timber Sale Contract and Timber Sale Bond. The sale will be awarded to the highest responsible bidder. Award of the timber sale is conditional upon approval of the timber sale by the State Board of Land Commissioners at their April 16, 2018 meeting. If the successful bidder is unable to execute the contract within 30 calendar days from the date the sale is awarded, the bid deposit will be retained by the Department as liquidated damages. The right is reserved to reject any or all bids. Ed passed away after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. Ed went peacefully to be with the Lord on March 22, 2014 in the presence of his loving wife Eleanor, five children, and numerous grandchildren and close family members. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard, sister Mary Lou, infant son Brian Keith, infant daughter Lynn Marie and grandson Parker Joseph.

Library drops fines in exchange for food donations

As of Feb. 1, the Mineral County Library will no longer charge fines for overdue library items and all overdue books currently on patrons accounts have been removed. Instead, when books and other items are overdue, people are being asked to bring non-perishable food items to the library in lieu of fines. Which in turn will be donated to the local food bank. However, charges for lost or damaged books will remain the same.

St. Regis River nears flood stage as snowpack melts

The banks of the Clark Fork River are swollen with muddy, high water as spring temperatures start to melt the high mountain snow. According to a statement released by Mineral County Floodplain Administrator, Tim Read, area snowpack monitors indicate a snowpack level that is nearing 100 percent of average or above. Though there are no reports of flooding so far, if there is a lot of rain, and higher temperatures, then flooding could occur. Read said that high water events in Mineral County usually occur in the month of April.
