Trying to stay afloat
I first learned about the power of an eddy when I did a story with Plains Mayor Michael Brinson concerning the increasing amount of land that was eroding away by the town's sewage cleaning ponds due to a strong eddy.

Rosemary Elizabeth Hampton-Colver, 89
Rosemary was born to Ruth and Victor Hampton October 8, 1927 at 12,718 feet elevation in Siglo Veinte (Llallagua), Bolivia. Coming into the world at that elevation must have been the catalyst for her love of the outdoors. She was raised among the native Bolivian populace while her father was operating a tin and silver mine as an Engineer. Her mother was a Baptist missionary and teacher. Rosemary, her sister Marquita and brother Ronnie learned Spanish and English simultaneously at an early age. Rosemary was schooled in Bolivia, Chile, Ontario Canada and New York. By 1940 the family moved back to the US and ended up in Texas where she started college in Dickinson. Circumstances led Rosemary and her siblings to Montana in the early 1950’s. Rosemary enrolled at Eastern Montana College and Quita taught school in remote Wilsall, MT. Ronald headed back to Texas by way of college in Salt Lake City.

Layer up to beat the cold this winter
It’s that time of year when you can’t just throw on the bath robe and run outside for the mail. You can’t walk your dog in your slippers and you can’t survive more than a few minutes before you’re iced over from your fingers to toes.
Kvelve's Comments: It can't get worse, can it?
Does anyone out there feel like I do about 2020?

Woman recalls Pearl Harbor attack
One Plains woman distinctly remembers a large red ball on the wings of several airplanes overhead in Hawaii. It surprised her at first, but soon she was taking cover in her own house. The day was Sunday, Dec. 7, 1941. The aircraft were Japanese Zeros heading to Pearl Harbor and other military installations on the island of Oahu. The woman was then 6-year-old Gladys Zimmerman — now Doney.

Breaking winter doldrums with fly fishing
For some Montana fishermen, even once the snow flies, they keep the flies casting.

Retired wildlife investigator has seen it all out in the field
In his long career as an investigator, Brian Sommers has dug into some of Northwest Montana’s most interesting and tragic cases involving people and animals.

Sanders County Sheriffs patrol region
SANDERS COUNTY- I would imagine that most law enforcement officers have experienced the feeling at one point in their career that they are in a “thankless” profession. Many people probably do not appreciate what these men and women go through on a daily basis. Until they need their help. But for some such as Sanders County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Josephson, it is just part of the job.

Paradise reaches out to fire victim
“It wasn’t an old quilt that I grabbed, it was actually brand-new,” Ruth Winkler said. “The quilt is a collection of photos from all the plays I’ve done over the 20 years I’ve been doing them, and it means a lot to me. The girls who transposed the photos onto the quilt worked so hard on it and if there was one thing I thought to save from that fire – it was that quilt.”
Farewell and take care
Two years, one month, and 17 days. That’s how long I’ve been able to call the Clark Fork Valley Press and Mineral Independent office my second home. With seldom a day off, it’s easy for me to say that these papers have not only been my life for the past few years, but they have been my passion – a burning passion that is hard for me to put out.

Lady Hawks learn from Divisionals
THOMPSON FALLS – If it were up to Head Coach Courtney Burky, the basketball season would never end. If she had it her way, she would be in the gym tonight practicing to her hearts content.
