Detention Center on track to reopen

Steps are being taken to get the Mineral County Detention Center back in operation after it was forced to close on Dec. 3 due to lack of staff. A jail committee was quickly put into place and several recommendations were approved by the county commissioners to get the facility back into operation.

School closures and power outages add to weather woes

The weather took a radical change of direction last week, causing havoc around western Montana, including Mineral County. The week started with temperatures dipping into the freezing range and heavy snowfall. By Thursday, temperatures rose up to 44 degrees with rain, causing wide spread snow melt which resulted in flooding.

Over 300 hearty racers lined up at designated stations on the west-end of Mineral County to participate in the fifth annual Trail Rail Run. Event coordinator, Tyler Cheesman said the turnout was about 100 more runners than they had last year.

Superior girls take district title

The Superior girls won their first district title this last weekend at district competition in class 6-B at the Missoula County Stadium. Deer Lodge came in second with 100 points even, but the Superior girls were several strides ahead with 131 points to sweep the competition on Friday and Saturday. After seven events on Friday, the Superior girls led with 56 points to Deer Lodge's second place total of 49.
