COLUMN: A frozen smile moment

There are precious few things that would prompt the local coroner/undertaker to tell my potentially grieving family members “we’ve tried everything and we just can’t get the smile off his face.”

Even in cold weather, get out and play!

With frigid temperatures outside, it may be hard to get motivated to bundle up and get some fresh air with your kids. This can result in a bad case of “cabin fever”. Outdoor play is not only essential for healthy brain development in children, it is also fun. But even though many parents believe outdoor play is beneficial, fewer children are spending time outside. Researchers have looked into this and have identified several reasons parents “keep” kids indoors including safety concerns and time constraints.

Unacceptable, absurd and ridiculous

Perhaps the governor should look in a mirror. He is, in his words, acting and speaking as if he and his words are “unacceptable, absurd and ridiculous.” Look at his statements on the wolf issue alone.

Athletes from St. Regis, Superior and Alberton packed their gear and headed to Frenchtown for their first meet of the season, the Jim Johnson meet. Johnson is a retired teacher from Alberton and started the tournament nine year ago. He was there again this year, with his stop watch, timing runners as they crossed the finish line.

Sunrise Fire close to homes, residents prepare for evacuations

A report released by the Ninemiles Ranger District at 11 a.m. today states that the Sunrise Fire burning 11 miles southeast of Superior has grown to 2,730 acres. Some 60 homes are threatened with the fire within a mile of some structures. Residents in the Sunrise and Quartz Flats areas have been on Stage 2 Evacuation orders since Monday and are prepared for Stage 3 Evacuation which is to leave the area immediately.
