After finishing third at districts, the Lady Cats headed to Pablo for the divisional tournament. The girls played three teams during the tournament. It was a loss against Bigfork on Friday that ended their season.

Workers cleared several cottonwood trees from the Sanders County Fairgrounds in an effort to maintain the grounds last Wednesday, Sept. 29. Five large trees, which stood on the west side of the fairgrounds, were felled due to rotting in the limbs. Sanders County Fair Manager Mike Hashisaki decided shortly after the conclusion of this year’s fair that these trees should be taken down, the reason being that several large limbs had fallen off in an area that is frequented by heavy auto and pedestrian traffic during the year.

Even with the late spring cold spells, bears are beginning to emerge from their winter slumber, which may be an indication of a slow start for spring bear hunters, according to Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials, who haven't seen as many bears as they usually do this time of year.

Local elections hold immense meaning, especially now with the ideologies and philosophies on the proper role of government in our everyday lives polarized between a) obedient compliance and resigned dependency on one hand, and b) personal responsibility and self reliance on the other. I like to think of it as: a) is the left hand, and b) the right hand.

Snowfall seen as worst in last 30 years
Last week, long-time Mineral County residents saw more snow than they’ve seen in 30 years. Estimates from the storm that hit last Monday, Feb. 25 were around 18 inches in Alberton, 12 in Superior and eight in St. Regis.
