Gianforte visits Superior group to discuss local issues

The Mineral County Republican Central Committee hosted a meet-and-greet for Greg Gianforte last Friday, May 5 at the Mineral County Fair Grounds. He is running for the vacant seat in congress against oppenent Rob Quist and addressed many issues facing voters today including management of the national forests, healthcare, vets and the economy.

Flat Creek cleanup nears completion after 15 years

The Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Environmental Quality hosted a site tour of the Flat Creek-Iron Mountain Mine tailing cleanup on May 10. Members of the Superior Technical Assistance Committee (STAC) and the public met in Superior and drove up to the site north of town. It gave interested parties the opportunity to ask questions and present ideas or concerns to the departments involved with the cleanup.

HOT SPRINGS - The 64th annual Homesteader Days celebration kicked off on Friday in Hot Springs with vendors setting up their booths and live music on Main Street. The festival is designed to celebrate the history and heritage of the original Native American and white settlers that chose to make a home in the area.

It’s the time of year that we allow ourselves to be frightened of things that go “bump” in the night and let our imagination run wild about unexplained phenomenon. Basketball district tournaments are a time when high school memories are made, and Clark Fork Mountain Cat senior Korey Radford has one for his scrapbook. In the consolation game at the 13C District Tournament against Victor last Saturday, the teams were neck-and-neck throughout the game. With 34.7 seconds on the clock, Radford made a bucket, bringing the Cats within 53-52. Then Clark Fork sophomore Aaron Waddle got a steal on the inbounds pass, giving the Cats another possession. After a time out, Radford threw up the final basket with 16.2 second left for the win, 54-53.

Battle on invasive watermilfoil in Noxon shows success

In 2012, the Sanders County Aquatic Invasive Plants Task Force waged the largest battle thus far in the war against two species of non-native weeds in the Noxon and Cabinet Gorge reservoirs -- Eurasian watermilfoil (EWM) and curlyleaf pondweed (CLP). Noxon Rapids Reservoir contains the uppermost known infestations of EWM on the Clark Fork River drainage.

At Superior Meats, an entire pig sits prepped and ready on a stainless steel table in the back room. Waiting to be roasted and become the celebrated main course at an upcoming wedding reception. Next to the table, employee Russell Anderson throws hams into a tumbler. The hams had just been infused with brine in a machine where they are taken by a conveyor belt to an infusion device. A device which has several long prongs that pierce the meat and fills it with brine.
