Superior records smashed
Christofer Eriksson shattered the school record last Thursday for the pole vault at the Superior Invitational. The record, which stood at 12-6, was back from 1986. To shatter a record, one must jump at least two additional inches. The feat was no problem for Ericksson who did so to a cheering applause from the crowd. It was also no surprise that he took first in the event with a jump of 12-8.
Bobcats battle Florence's height on Saturday
When the Superior Bobcats played the Florence Falcons Saturday night they found themselves battling against the Falcon’s height. Forward Adam Greger stood at 6’ 4”, while Quinn Smith, a junior post, towered every player at 6’ 8” and senior forward Alex Mitchell stood at 6’6”. RJ Fredrickson appeared short at 6’2” up against Quinn at tipoff. Although the crowd was small, they were loud and supportive of their team, as they shouted encouragement from the bleachers. But despite Fredrickson’s best efforts, he nearly had it as he jumped as high as he could, Quinn reached over and grabbed the ball as the game started.

A train derailed 2.5 miles west of Plains at 5:22 a.m. Wednesday morning, spilling soybeans into the river. Most of the soybeans have been contained in a back eddy. There were no injuries and no hazardous materials released. The highway could be closed, possibly until tomorrow, while they clear the scene. There is a detour. Officials from Montana Rail Link are requesting people not stop as spectactors have been creating a traffic hazard. For more coverage, see the article in the Oct. 29 Valley Press.
