Burn permits extended
The period for which to apply for a burn permit has been extended until June 15 according to Robert Derleth with the Superior Ranger District.

Daines, Gianforte show support for Northwest Montana mining
U.S. Sen. Steve Daines and Rep. Greg Gianforte recently released statements in response to the announcement that reclamation work on the Troy Mine was being paused due to the state of Montana’s “Bad Actor” decision against Hecla Mining Company. The ruling has also put on hold on two other long-delayed mining projects: the Montanore Mine near Libby, and the Rock Creek Mine near Noxon.

Wednesday, March 29 was rainy and cold, which was a typical spring day for Plains and Sanders County. What is not typical on a spring day is seeing nine or ten people on the side of the highway picking up trash and putting it into large black colored plastic trash bags. Who are they? Why are they out there in the rain, walking or standing beside the longest and busiest state highway in Montana?

Trotters go to State Tournament
KALISPELL - Friday night, the Trotters went head to head with the Bigfork Vals. The first half of the game went to Bigfork with a 19 to 17 advantage, but the Trotters were close behind. In the second half of the game Big Fork charged ahead and finished with 43 points, Plains with 34. The game lasted well past 11:00pm in the Flathead High School gymnasium.

Students recognized for writing
PLAINS - Each year as part of a Creative Writing Project of the Greater Federation of Woman’s Clubs, the Plains Woman’s Club encourages students of both public schools and home schools to enter the Creative Writing Contest. Entries are judged at the local, district and state levels. Students from kindergarten through 12th grade are eligible to submit entries in either, or both, the short story contest or the poetry contest, and compete in appropriate categories based on age and grade.

The Montana Legislature only meets in session for 90 work days every other year, so our next session will commence in January, 2015. In between those sessions is referred to as “the interim”, and some Representatives and Senators are given appointments during that time to sit on an interim committee.
