HOT SPRINGS – A group of women gathered in the Sun Room of the Symes Hotel Sunday afternoon to audition for the production of Scarlet Ribbons. The playwright was done by Hot Springs local Susan Faye Roberts formerly of Butte, Montana.
Community Notes
Fourth of July celebrations will take place in Alberton, and St. Regis. In St. Regis there will be breakfast at the school from 8 to 11 a.m. and a parade at 11 a.m. Food and games at the park from noon to 4 pm, and fireworks at dusk.

St. Regis 4-H group treats seniors
The St. Regis Senior Center was given a holiday treat when the St. Regis 4-H group visited on Dec. 14. They sang songs to the seniors, including the traditional melodies of: “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas;” “Here Comes Santa Claus;” “Frosty The Snowman;” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas;” and “Jingle Bells.”

Derby and banquet raise money for local charities
The first annual Noxon Reservoir Walleye Derby kicked off Saturday as anglers gathered at the Flatiron boat ramp outside Thompson Falls to attempt to catch the elusive fish. Twelve two-person teams launched their boats and fished from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. before gathering at the Lakeside Motel in Trout Creek for the accompanying banquet fundraiser.

We Care event a success
Folks from all over Mineral County came together to take part in the We Care Festival in Superior, which was held on Saturday, Oct. 16. The gathering took place in front of the historic school building in the heart of Superior, and featured several different exhibits, activities for kids and live music courtesy of the Zylawy brothers. The event was intended as a fundraiser for the newly created We Care organization.

Roberta Ruguleiski
Roberta Gayle (Johnson) Ruguleiski, 79, of Plains, Mont., passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, at Clark Fork Valley Hospital following treatment for a heart condition. Donald E. Ruguleiski, her husband of 59 years, was by her side.

More than 60 homes threatened as evacuation orders go into effect
Over 60 homes have been threatened by the Sunrise Fire burning east of Superior. Last week several areas including Sunrise Creek, Quartz Flats and Quartz Creek were given Stage 3 evacuation orders. Other areas, including Verde Creek, remained on Stage 2 evacuation warning. While the Rivulet area located northeast of the fire is on Stage 1 Evacuation Alert.

Mineral County happenings
Cub Scout Pack 4953 of St. Regis held an award ceremony on April 1. Weblos, Ben Lohman and Shane Honeycutt, along with Wolf’s, Cameron Anderson and Micheal Kelley received badges, pins and a belt loop for their participation.

Former astronaut John Glenn touched many lives, even in St. Regis
Former astronaut and U.S. Senator, John Glenn was hailed as a national hero and became a symbol of the space age as the first American to orbit Earth. He passed away on Thursday, Dec. 8 at the age of 95. He was in the Senate for 24 years, but captured the country’s imagination when he became the first American to orbit the Earth.
Montana State Library releases videos highlighting impact of libraries
(SUPERIOR)--- The Montana State Library and Mineral County Public Library are pleased to announce the release of a series of three videos that highlight the impact libraries have on the lives of Montanans. The videos feature Montana library users and Montana librarians from around the state.

Mineral County RSVP volunteers honored at luncheon
A nice luncheon celebrating the accomplishments of the Mineral County RSVP members was held a few weeks ago. A group of 19 volunteers gathered at the River Edge Resort and were greeted with a festively decorated room, and by one another. This tight-knit group has been working side by side for years and friendships have been forged throughout that time. The program is under the direction of Mary Jo Berry, and she coordinated the event to honor their top volunteers.
