Few floods in Mineral County
In counties all over Montana, the flooding rivers have caused residents to roll up their pant legs, canoe to work, or even evacuate their homes. Mineral County has, so far, avoided those frustrations this flood season. Although the river shores in Mineral County are drier than other counties in the state, a few problem areas have sprung up last week.

On Friday night, the Cats faced the Pirates in Victor with a pair of victories. The boy’s varsity won of 55-50 and the girls won 44-34. The Pirates led at the half with 28-24 but the score was tied by the end of the third quarter, 41-41. In the fourth quarter, the Cats pounded back and managed to put 14 points on the board to the Pirates 9 for the win.
St. Regis shows support for law enforcement after hostage incident
Around 100 people gathered in the St. Regis School gymnasium March 20 as a community assembly was called for those who may need counseling or just want to talk about the shooting incident March 18 where a suspect in an Idaho armed robbery was killed by law enforcement after shooting a hostage near the travel center.
St. Regis Christmas Bazaar supports community
Saturday was national Small Business Day, aimed at attracting Christmas shoppers to the many and varied products turned they bring to market.
St. Regis Fire Department buys a new water tender
The St. Regis Volunteer Fire Department is now the proud owner of a new water tender. It replaces an old tender, “that leaked more than it held,” said Assistant Fire Chief Kat Kittridge. The tactical tender brings water to fire trucks in the field that are engaged on a fire line. Plus they are equipped with other fire and medical equipment. The department also received new extrication gear, including the “Jaws of Life” and a “ram” extrication tool. This tool will be gifted to the Superior Volunteer Fire Department.
Chainsaws tossed for charity
Sweat, sawdust and steel filled St. Regis Park Friday afternoon as logging competitors from all over the county and state showed their metal at the St. Regis Logging Games.
Community Notes
The annual Mineral Community Hospital Health Fair is Saturday, May 12, with vendors who are excited to share their services to Mineral County. There will be live demonstration of telemedicine between Providence St. Patrick Hospital and Mineral Community Hospital. This has become, literally, a life saver for patients in rural settings. The tele stroke equipment at Mineral Community Hospital has made a significant difference for several patients this year alone. Partnership Health Center-Mineral County will have their dentist on hand because many residents aren’t even aware that dentistry exists here anymore.

The Mineral County Library will host their annual Pumpkin Decorating and Costume Contest on Oct. 27 from noon to 2 p.m. There is also a fall fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a bake and book sale, as well as hot dogs. The Chamber of Commerce will be there at noon, and Parents as Teachers will do a slime presentation. All events will be held on the library lawn located at 301 2nd Ave. E. in Superior. Clark Fork teams win tournament at Trestle Creek
The Clark Fork Mountain Cats won for both the boys’ and girls’ divisions at the St. Regis Golf Tournament at Trestle Creek on Thursday, May 2, where they qualified four players for state. The boys’ team won with 304, and the girls won with 392. Aaron Waddle, Danner Haskins, Jonna Warnken and Zoe Kelsey qualified for the State C Tournament in Seeley Lake. “We could be very competitive at the State C level in two years with both boys’ and girls’ teams if the kids continue to work hard,” Clark Fork coach Seth Kuhl said. Both from Thompson Falls, Ethan Brown won for the boys’ title with an 85, and Megan Baxter won for the girls with 106. Clark Fork’s Danner Haskins placed third with 97, and Aaron Waddle placed fifth with 103. St. Regis Tiger JD Booker scored 135. The tournament wrapped up the regular season and the State C Tournament is May 13-15 at the Double Arrow Golf Course in Seeley Lake.
