Obituary; Alice Mardell (Dewar) Monzie
Alice Mardell (Dewar) Monzie, 91, of Hood River, Ore., passed away Sept. 5, 2014, at the Hood River Care Center of natural causes. Alice was born July 30, 1923, at Rexford, Mont., to Jesse C. and Alice Adele (Stone) Dewar.
Superior school district keeps testing policy
SUPERIOR – The Superior School District board decided, with a few adjustments, to keep their current drug testing policy for students engaged in extra curricular activities and to begin random testing in coming months.

County works to reduce aquatic invasive species
A task force gathered at the Montana State Offices in Thompson Falls on Wednesday to discuss efforts to reduce the population of the invasive species known as Eurasian Water Milfoil in Sanders County waters. Eurasian Water Milfoil was introduced in North America in the 1940s and is largely viewed as a noxious, undesirable weed.
Mineral Independent wins big at state awards banquet
The Mineral Independent recently brought home nine awards from the Montana Newspaper Association banquet; six of those a first place honor.

Piranhas swim laps around the competition
CONRAD- The Piranhas of Plains continued improving their performances during the swim meet in Conrad over the weekend. The team has only one more competition before the state meet in Sidney. The divisional tournament will take place this weekend in Hamilton.

But Memorial Day is not just held to a special day of remembrance, but transcends time. Those service people are remembered on a daily basis with thankful hearts by those whose lives they’ve impacted.
Superior's drinking water passes all EPA tests
The Town of Superior recently released its annual 2018 Water Quality Report. The report is in compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Safe Drinking Water Act. The report is a snapshot of the quality of water provided to residents of Superior.

I had the opportunity (as did you) to attend the May 9 Sanders County commissioner’s meeting on ordinance # 2019-01: an ordinance to control barking dogs within Sanders County and to establish procedures for enforcement.

Woodard sentenced to 55 years
Michael John Woodard, who pled guilty to deliberate homicide August 24 for killing his ex-wife Kelly Dube-Woodard, has been sentenced in Mineral County District Court Wednesday by District Court Judge Karen Townsend.

High Bridge receives award
The Sanders County Commissioners and the High Bridge Committee were selected by the Montana Preservation Alliance (MPA) to receive one of this year’s Excellence in Historic Preservation Awards. They were selected for their “amazing efforts to restore and re-open the historic High Bridge.” Three members of the committee, Tim Harlan, Katy Walton and Jean Polequaptewa, along with Carol Brooker, Commission Chair, made the trek to Helena Wednesday, Sept. 29, to accept the award. A reception and ceremony was attended by 100 or so MPA volunteers, members and other honored guests at the Montana Club in Helena.
Thompson Falls felon sentenced for illegal possession of firearms
A Thompson Falls man with two prior federal felony convictions and other state felonies was sentenced Jan. 3 to five years and 10 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, for admitting to firearms crimes after law enforcement found numerous guns at his residence, U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich said.

River float supports area veterans
