Several truck accidents continue to hit I90 due to hazardous conditions

The Montana Highway Patrol reported 34 incidents between Feb. 26 and Mar.5, as snow and icy conditions continue to sweep down Interstate 90 in Mineral County. Several incidents occurred on Sunday, Feb. 26, and on Saturday, Mar. 4 where higher elevations were hit with heavy snow fall. Especially hazardous conditions were reported on Lookout Pass.

Local recycling effort: Too much of a good thing?

St. Regis Community Cleanup Days on May 5 and 6 was cut short when bins were filled by 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Two 40 yard containers had been placed by Republic Services at Mullen Square and residents were welcome to bring recyclable items such as old furniture, tires, and appliances. Truck loads of items had to be turned away, said St. Regis Resort District board member, Jessica Connolly. The bins had been put in place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday and she thought some items had been put there before the Saturday start time.

Last weekend high school band students from all over the state gathered to experience the thrill of playing before a stadium full of football fans. They joined up with the Montana State University marching band and played with them during the Bobcat versus Idaho State game on October 28.

St. Regis residents and travelers through the area can’t miss the bright orange traffic cones and construction lining Montana 135 just north of the four-way stop through town. The project is part of the St. Regis Resort District Enhancement and Beautification Project, which began on June 5.

Obituary; Kenneth Henry Seng

Kenneth Henry Seng of Plains, MT died at Hot Springs, April 21, 2015.  He was 79 years old.  Kenneth (Kenny) is survived by a son, Kenneth (Lena) Seng, daughter, Elizabeth Seng, 5 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, nieces, and a nephew.  Also, two brothers, Clifford (Deanne) Seng and Wes (Trudy) Seng and daughter-in-law, Deborah Denson.  He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Seng, of Plains, MT and a sister, Ann Seng Watkins.

At 5 p.m. on Friday, June 24 at the Superior High School track, some of Mineral County’s most loved citizens were in the limelight. This was when the 2016 Mineral County Relay for Life commenced with a celebratory reception for Mineral County cancer survivors.

Wildfires continue to burn around region

Copper King fire burning eight miles east of Thompson Falls, started on Sunday, July 31. As of August 7 it has reached 1,398 acres. There were 389 firefighters on the scene and the fire is five percent contained. No evacuation orders as of Sunday.
