Superior sixth-grader Payton Milender won the Mineral County Spelling Bee on Wednesday, Feb. 22, after 14 rounds of competition. The spelling bee started with 30 participants, but one-by-one, they were knocked out of the running by trying to spell words like “crustaceans,” “hypotenuse” and “Huguenot.”

In November 2011, Mineral Community Hospital held their first Holiday Food Drive to help those in need in the county through the holidays. This season is no exception, as the hospital employees are continuing to collect non-perishable food items with a goal of over 5,000 pounds.
