Students at Alberton and Superior were all smiles last week when representatives from Montana Rail Link (MRL) showed up and handed out sweatshirts to everyone. Tony Bacino, Chief of Security for Montana Rail Link gave the students a presentation about railroad safety. Then he, other MRL employees, and Monte, University of Montana’s mascot, handed out the sweatshirts to everyone, including teachers and administrative staff.

The annual Christmas Bazaar was held at the Community Center in St. Regis on Dec. 10. Coordinators Kathy Koepke and Ilene Wolff said they had more vendors than they’ve had in the past, with 32 tables filled with crafts, food, and collectables.

The Clark Fork Mountain Cats boy’s basketball team was in for a treat on Tuesday, Dec. 6 when they relinquished their gym to the San Jose Spartans. The Division 1 team played the University of Montana Grizzlies on Dec. 7 and found themselves without a gym to practice on the day before their game.

Thompson Falls first-grader wins Seattle Punt, Pass & Kick competition

Six-year-old Hailey Lowe bested three other regional champions to win the Seattle Seahawks’ Punt, Pass & Kick team championship on Nov. 19 in Renton, Washington, before being recognized in an on-field ceremony at halftime of the Seahawks’ game at CenturyLink Field the next day.

New Mineral County Attorney hired

The search for a new Mineral County attorney is over, as Ellen Donohue last week accepted the position. Marcia Boris left the job on Sept. 2 and moved to Libby to become the deputy county attorney for Lincoln County. Since that time, County Commissioners have been in the process of hiring a new attorney with several interviews having taken place over the past few weeks. Donohue is from Butte and will begin in January.
