The Stateline Complex is burning on the St. Joe Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests, to the south and west of the Idaho-Montana state line, and about 6.5 miles southwest of St. Regis.

Bison Range to undergo chip sealing operations

MOIESE - Be prepared for chip sealing of the paved roads at the National Bison Range during the week of June 1. The paved roads accessing the Visitor Center and the Day Use Area will be affected as well as the parking area at the Visitor Center. The Visitor Center and Red Sleep Mountain Drive will remain open throughout but visitors will need to follow the detour signs. The Day Use Area may also have restrictions during this time.

We should all be tested for HIV and Hep C

The Centers for Disease Control released a predictive study titled “County-level Vulnerability Assessment for Rapid Dissemination of HIV or HCV Infections among Persons who Inject Drugs” in summer 2016 that was intended to identify potential locations where an outbreak could occur. Mineral County ended up on this list based on the risk factors they looked at. Mineral County has risk just like any other county or tribal jurisdiction, but fortunately we have not experienced any increase in acute Hepatitis C or HIV infections.

Lookout restoration makes progress

THOMPSON FALLS – Work to refurbish and improve the Big Hole Lookout on the Plains-Thompson Falls Ranger District is progressing well. The lookout may be added to the Lolo National Forest’s Recreation Rental program once the work is complete. The work has been a team effort involving Passport In Time (http://www.passportintime.com) volunteers, Forest Service heritage specialists, the Northern Region Pack String (https://www.flickr.com/photos/fsnorthernregion/5641423653) and the Wild Horse Plains Backcountry Horsemen who have provided stock support each week.
