Charity golf tournament to be held in Noxon
NOXON - You don’t have to be a golfer in order to participate in the silent auction in this year’s Avista’s 5th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Aug. 17 to benefit the Sanders County Coalition for Families. This year, you’ll be able to call a special phone number during the live auction and place your bid. This new phone-in feature will expand the number of people in the community who can get involved with the fundraising event.

Mineral, Sanders county food banks among five to receive holiday donation
The Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation recently announced a special holiday donation of $203,500 to food banks, food pantries, rescue missions and homeless shelters across Montana. Candidate: I-185 initiative deserves your support
I-185, the Healthy Montana Initiative, was submitted statewide to all Montana counties’ Clerk & Recorders Offices on Friday, June 22, 2018, with more than 42,000 signatures, and those signatures are now in the process of being verified. Since only 25,468 signatures were needed with a sufficient number from each of a minimum of 34 house districts, it is very likely that the initiative will be accepted and then placed on this fall’s ballot at the general election.
Circus performers bring smiles of delight
First-time circus visitors were obvious if not by their mere age, then by their eyes brightened with cautious curiosity at the new sights, sounds, and smells as they waited in line to enter the Big Top in Thompson Falls last week. As the audience built in numbers, the circus performers interacted with the kids both outside the tent and inside. Although many spectators may not have been aware, those working at the pony ride and bouncy houses as well as those painting faces and selling circus popcorn, cotton candy and souvenirs were the same members of the Culpepper and Merriweather troupe who entertained in the circus ring.

Whitetail deer numbers down for northwest Montana
SANDERS COUNTY - Hunters took to the field Saturday and Sunday across northwest Montana for the opening weekend of the general deer and elk season. At the six northwest Montana check stations, a total of 2,900 hunters checked 85 white-tailed deer (66 of these were bucks), 16 mule deer, and 17 elk for a 4.1 percent rate of hunters with game. This compares with a 5.5 percent rate of hunters with game last year at the check stations.
