Work Progressing on Dominion Creek Trestle

Work to ready the Dominion Creek Trestle and Tunnel for public use as part of the Route of the Olympian has continued over the last several weeks, with workers removing ballast boxes from the old railroad grade to prepare it for new decking. The ballast boxes were part of the original construction and were used to hold in place the dirt and gravel that made up the bed of the railroad grade. New decking, made of glue laminated timbers, will now be placed on the trestle. That work is expected to begin in early September.

Man dies after jumping off I-90 bridge fearing oncoming semi

A Baltimore man who got into a crash on Interstate 90 in western Montana died after jumping off a bridge, apparently in fear that an oncoming semitractor-trailer was going to strike the crashed vehicles, Mineral County officials said.

Carpool to Missoula may be available in Mineral County

Transportation may be available for Mineral County residents to Missoula through the Missoula Ravalli Transportation Management Association. If five people sign up anywhere from Alberton to Saltese, they would be eligible for a six-passenger van to carpool into Missoula. If 8-9 people sign up a Nissan NV vehicle would be assigned to the route. The monthly fare from Superior, for example, would be $154.40. or about $7.70 per trip unless the van is sponsored by a business. AAA estimates it costs $1,277 a month for the same commute. The van driver would ride for free if they drive at least two full days per week said Lyn Hellegaard, executive director of the Missoula Ravalli Transit Management Authority.

Obituary; George Nelson Lamb

George Nelson Lamb passed away March 24, 2015.  George was born to George and Augusta Lamb at Falcon, Idaho on June 11, 1923.  He grew up on the Quartz flats near Superior MT. George was proud to have served his country during WWII.  He earned a purple heart while serving in the Pacific Theater.  He met the love of his life, Leona Wentz, during a welcome home dance held in his honor at the Quartz schoolhouse.  They were married December 25, 1946.  Leona survives him.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister June (Bud) Petersen and 5 half siblings.  A public military burial will take place in the Quartz Cemetery on June 24, 2015 at 1:30 pm.

MISSOULA—The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) Aeronautics Division’s 37th annual Pilot Search Clinic was held on Saturday and Sunday, Sep. 12th-13th. The clinic was based out of the airports located at St. Ignatius, Superior, Hamilton, Stevensville, Rock Creek, and Seeley Lake; and covered the mountainous terrain surrounding Missoula.
