Tax Freedom Day: This year, national Tax Freedom Day is April 18. What’s that mean? According to the Tax Foundation, the average American taxpayer will pay an amount equal to 108 days of wages in 2013. In essence, all wages earned from Jan 1 to April 17 can be considered the government’s share of our annual earnings. April 18 is considered tax freedom day because it represents the day you get to start spending (or saving) all of your earnings, your way.

The Thompson Falls boys basketball team continued its winning ways last weekend with a win against Troy, 69-17, Saturday.

Tour of Homes launches Christmas celebration
Plains Woman’s Club again invites the public to launch the Christmas season on Saturday, Dec. 11 by touring four homes all decorated for Christmas, some with traditional decorations, some with many handmade ones. Begin the tour by picking up tickets at the Antler Creek Artists’ craft show and sale, at 204 Willis Street (the old Little Bitterroot Thrift Store, which is behind the Town Hall and in front of the Laundromat). Then tour homes in any order, enjoying refreshments at each house. Homes on the tour are those of Joyce Dougan & Kathy Miller, Daphne & Kevin Boles, Darrell & Deanna Lapierre Amidon, and JoAnne & Russ Baker. At the Dougan/Miller home, visitors will see many hand made decorations as well as beautiful blown glass ornaments which catch light from outside and light the inside of the home. At night these ornaments reflect light from inside to the outside. This wonderful rustic home was last on the tour in 1999, but is well worth another look. The Boles home will be decorated with a collection of nativity sets and other traditional decorations, with lots of trees. At the Amidon home, visitors will find country style decorations inside and out, including a nativity scene and several snowmen. Home made decorations and family heirlooms will be featured at the Baker home, evoking many family memories, and perhaps reminding visitors of their own Christmases past. Hours of the tour are from 12 noon until 6 p.m. The last tickets will be sold at 4 p.m., ensuring that all ticket purchasers will have time to tour all the homes. Tickets may be bought on Friday afternoon or on Saturday morning beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Antler Creek Artists show.

The St. Regis Sewer Board meets on the second Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Community Center.
Hot Springs duos place high
It was a duo that shined for Hot Springs last week in its two track meets, although the duo changed slightly between the first and last track meet. Starting on Tuesday, seniors Reiley Winebrenner and Devon White were both invited to the Russ Pilcher Western Montana TOP 10 track meet and both placed in the meet featuring only the best of the best with no class differential.
Lady Tigers struggle
Once again, the St. Regis girls were taking on teams with extra players on the bench while they had no one to sub to get the players on the court a break. Juliana Spencer, Brogan Teeters, Shelby Berg, Gabby Moeller and Arianna Jones were the only players to suit up for the Lady Tigers.
Alberton girls end on high note
The Alberton girls had a strong finish to their regular season last week with two wins. They bested Arlee by one point, 39-38, and Lincoln, 52-37.

The Horsemen are still looking for their first District 7-B win after a 40-54 loss against Troy on Saturday. Plains is now 0-6 conf., 4-10 ovr. with four conference games left on their schedule before the district tournament.
