St. Regis students raise funds for trip
ST. REGIS – One teacher and the principal at the St. Regis High School were walking the halls and teaching classes last Friday wearing somewhat non-traditional attire in order to honor a wager they made with the student body.

Snowfall seen as worst in last 30 years
Last week, long-time Mineral County residents saw more snow than they’ve seen in 30 years. Estimates from the storm that hit last Monday, Feb. 25 were around 18 inches in Alberton, 12 in Superior and eight in St. Regis.

A crash cushion and seatbelt saved the life of a man and his dog last Thursday morning. The red SUV was heading east near the on ramp by Alberton. When it hit the guard rail and flipped. It came to rest on its roof, and the single passenger, along with his dog, crawled out.
Avalanche shuts down Interstate 90
HAUGAN – On Monday, March 3, both directions of Interstate 90 were shut down after an avalanche blocked the interstate. Montana Highway Patrol Sergeant Roman Zylawy said the snow hit west of Haugan around mile marker 13.

Local Minor League Baseball update
Clark Fork Valley Minor League Baseball postseason tournament seeds are set. The Plains Twins headed to Thompson Falls last Tuesday for the final regular season game of the year. At stake was a number one seed heading into next weekend’s tournament. Pitcher Jake Zigler held the Hawks at bay with a 13 strikeout, one hit performance for a 2-0 victory. The six team postseason tournament is hosted in St. Regis on Friday and Saturday.

Slide-off occurs on River Road West
PLAINS - A single vehicle slide-off occured on Friday, Dec. 21 that resulted in minor injuries of a minor male traveling on River Road West. The young man had been coming from a residence when a gradual turn became an icy mishap. According to authorities, the driver lost control of the Dodge pickup truck and it collided into a hill and a tire was blown. The driver hit his head, but was able to crawl out of the vehicle and wait for authorities to arrive to the scene. The father of the juvenile driver arrived and gave information to Plains PD and MHP. There was minimal blockage due to the accident, but Plains-Paradise Rural Fire and Plains Volunteer Fire directed traffic to one lane that was slow-moving due to the ice.
