Mueller and Mask selected for all-state in Class C Volleyball
Clark Fork Mountain Cats Superior senior Kenzie Mueller and Madison Mask, a junior, were named to the Class C all-state volleyball team from western Montana, while Alberton senior Montanna Baughman was selected as second team all-conference.

Eight locals pass EMT class and are ready for state exams
Eight local residents recently passed their EMT class and are now ready to take the state exams. Superior teacher, Beau Servo; St. Regis teacher, Laura Jarvis; Superior High School student’s Matt Buchanan and Nathan Lapinski; Mineral Community Hospital employee, Jess Hope; AEMT, Anita Parkin; ambulance driver, Michael Bowen; and Brendan McEldry.

The State of Montana, through the Department of Public Health and Human Services, offers two programs aimed at helping low-income individuals reduce their heating costs.

Low income energy assistance available to residents
In Mineral County, almost 30 percent of the population between ages 18 and 64, lives in poverty. And as the temperatures drop, some people may not have enough money to heat their homes. Luckily the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) and Weatherization is available to low income residents who need help with their heating bills. LIEAP is federally funded through the Department of Health and Human Services.

PLAINS – Francis Ward North, a longtime resident of Plains, passed away peacefully at Clark Fork Valley Hospital on April 17th, 2013 from pancreatic cancer at the age of 75.

Pickup struck my BNSF train west of Cyr Exit off I-90
A pickup truck was struck by a train just west of the Cyr Exit on Tuesday morning, Feb. 19. The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the railroad crossing off Daigle Lane. An unidentified male was driving a white pickup truck when he was struck dead center and dragged a half a mile down the tracks by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe locomotive.

Gabrielle Fink Beller, 92, died Feb. 15, 2019, following a brief illness. Gabrielle (Gaye to her friends as she would say) was born Aug. 13, 1926, in Goodman, Wisc., to Orvia and Franc Fink.
