Community gives thanks at community meal
Prevention program taught
SANDERS COUNTY – Several members of the Sanders County community gathered at a church recently last week to learn what they can do to prevent domestic and sexual violence as well as what role they can play in support of victims.

The Mineral Community Hospital Health Fair will be held on Saturday May 20th in the Superior Elementary School Gymnasium. Events will include discounted lab draws, and there will be a strong focus on the reason it’s important for everyone to have a primary health care provider, said the event coordinator, Monte Turner

Thompson Falls beautifies town
THOMPSON FALLS – The community of Thompson Falls came together last week to help beautify their town. The goal of the annual event is to spruce up, clean up and pick up the town.
Tree lighting welcomes holidays and honors deceased
ALBERTON – The building festivities of the holidays saw the community gather to spark the Christmas season and honor passed loved ones Friday, as the Alberton community held a Christmas tree lighting and tribute at the Alberton Community Center.

Holiday shoppers come to St. Regis bazaar
ST. REGIS – The main room of the St. Regis Community Center was turned into a miniature mall Saturday as the Community Council held its annual Christmas Bazaar and Raffle.
Preservation Committee looks for input
PARADISE – Efforts to repurpose the historic school building in Paradise continue to progress and over the course of the next several weeks there will be opportunities for members of the Sanders County community to partake in the preservation of this historic structure.

Superior Community Center
In less than a week, residents of the Superior School District will vote on a levy increase. If passed, the funds will be used to construct a community center. However after two public meetings, concern is outweighing support.

HOT SPRINGS - It started back in 2006. David Max, now a resident of Hot Springs, was living in Missoula and found himself in legal battles to try an create a radio station.
Plains Food Bank to host informational meeting on hunger
PLAINS - Sanders County has the highest rate of food insecurity in the state, with more than 21 percent of residents struggling with hunger. The Montana Food Bank Network (MFBN) will host a Community Conversation: Hunger in Montana and Sanders County on June 12th in Plains. MFBN invites community organizations and community members interested in learning about hunger in their area to attend.

Healthy Communities Coalition wins $200,000 grant
When the Mineral County Healthy Communities Coalition (HCC) restructured itself a few years ago, members had no idea the impact this organization would have on the county and its residents. Now, members are seeing a huge growth in the programs it offers, as well as some very positive outcomes.

- Friday, Dec. 6 p.m., the Peak Foundation will present its Annual Tree Lighting and Community Gathering at the Alberton Community Center. The hours are from 6–8 p.m. Potluck and bring a candle to put under the tree in remembrance of someone who has recently passed on. Games will be played. County students discover healthcare careers
SUPERIOR - On Wednesday, February 5, St.Regis High School and Alberton High School students will take part in a R.E.A.C.H. program hosted by Mineral Community Hospital. On the consecutive Wednesday, Superior High School students will attend an identical program. R.E.A.C.H., which stands for Research and Explore Awesome Careers in Healthcare, was developed by the Montana Area Health Education Center in 2007. The Western Montana Area Health Education Center (WMT-AHEC) R.E.A.C.H. program provides an opportunity for students to have hands-on exposure to latest equipment, practices, and procedures in the healthcare industry. Students will spend the morning at Mineral Community Hospital (MCH), working in teams, rotating through a variety of departments, where MCH professionals will provide a close-up view of job duties, daily practice, policy and procedures, and explain the education and training required for their positions.Larry Putnam, Mineral Community Hospital CEO and hospital staff are choreographing the day’s events to include student visits to Radiology, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Lab, Surgery and ER.
