Residents warned of false evacuation orders

Mineral County Sheriff Tom Bauer was reminding residents that only uniformed law enforcement officers or fire officials will ask them to evacuate. The warning is the result of a report last week from a resident in the Lozeau area who was allegedly approached by an individual who told them they needed to evacuate immediately. However, he did not appear to be an official with law enforcement or the fire department.

Sunrise Fire close to homes, residents prepare for evacuations

A report released by the Ninemiles Ranger District at 11 a.m. today states that the Sunrise Fire burning 11 miles southeast of Superior has grown to 2,730 acres. Some 60 homes are threatened with the fire within a mile of some structures. Residents in the Sunrise and Quartz Flats areas have been on Stage 2 Evacuation orders since Monday and are prepared for Stage 3 Evacuation which is to leave the area immediately.

Standoff in Alberton ends peacefully

An Alberton man was arrested on Friday without incident after a night-long standoff involving a Missoula SWAT team. Leonard Upton, 33, shot out his neighbor’s window with a bb gun and brandished a .38 revolver, according to Mineral County Sheriff, Tom Bauer.

Relay for Life coming up in August

Once again the Sanders County Relay For Life Core Committee members are attending monthly meetings, and assigning tasks to their committee members for the upcoming Sanders County Relay For Life. It takes a lot of people, work, time, and commitment to pull off a Relay; but this nucleus of men and women gladly make the effort in pursuit of their ultimate goal: a cure for cancer.

William J. Rich Jr. passed away September 6, 2012. Billy was born to William and Leslie Rich Wednesday, March 3, 1976 in Missoula. Billy attended schools in Missoula, grade schools in Jefferson and Franklin and in August 1986 moved to Plains and continued his schooling in Plains and in his sophomore year returned to Missoula and graduated from Big Sky High School. Returning to Plains, he was employed at the VFW, Jenny’s Road House returning to the VFW until the time of his death. Billy is preceded in death by his grandparents, aunt and several cousins. He is survived by his wife Brandie, daughter McKinzie, sons Hunter and Aidan, his parents Bill of Missoula, Leslie of Plains, sister Susan of Missoula, nephews Nathan, Matthew and niece Ashley and his aunts and cousins and in-laws and many friends.
