In the spring, the National Merit Scholarship Corp. announces the names of approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to compete for over 7,500 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $32 million, which will be offered in the spring of 2018.

The Christmas season is over? No, not entirely. The Eastern Orthodox, the second largest Christian communion in the world, numbering approximately 1,200,000 adherents in the United States, celebrated Christmas on Jan. 7, which is Dec. 25 in the Julian calendar. The Gregorian calendar, the reformed Julian Calendar we use today, was implemented by a Catholic Pope, Pope Gregory XIII, in 1582, but to this date it has not been recognized for religious observances by many Eastern Orthodox Churches around the world.

Choices for Change Counseling (Nancy M. Smith) has been certified as a State Approved Agency by DPHHS, Addictive and Mental Disorders Division. Choices has also been designated by the Mineral County Commissioners to receive 100 % of the Mineral County earmarked alcohol tax monies for the provision of chemical dependency treatment and prevention services in accordance with MCA 53-24-206.

The deadline is drawing near to file for the open seats on the Alberton Town Council said a post by Glenda Wallace on the Alberton, Montana Community Facebook page. Alberton’s current mayor, Josh Acker is not seeking re-election which also leaves the mayor’s seat open. All of the Council Members seats are up for re-election. “A rare occurrence due to some previous resignations and special elections,” says Wallace.
