Ellen Beverly Basque-Aldwych 1934-2008, Thompson Falls
Ellen was born to Perry and Florench Aldrich in Chicago, Ill. on January 31, 1934. An only child, at age 14, she married Edward Basque and lived in California where they had six children. She worked for Lockheed and then Loma Linda Hospital until she went off a mountain cliff in her car one snowy night where she was paralyzed on the left side of her body for four years. In 1976 they moved to Alberton. After divorcing Edward (of 34 years), she moved to Stevensville, then Dixon, then Superior and Thompson Falls. After battling chronic pneumonia after having a brain aneurism in 2000, and after many hospital stays through the eight years, her heart finally wore out when she passed away in the Plains hospital on July 2, 2008.

People in Mineral County are wondering, “Why are five members of the Superior Area Ambulance Service running for the Hospital Board?” To prevent the rumor mill from taking over, we will address this question. Our primary motive is to improve patient care. We understand the financial aspect of the hospital is very important, but do not believe it should supersede patient care.

Fourteen girls were announced for the 2016-17 Western C Girls All-State selection in basketball. Including Superior’s athlete, junior Kenzie Mueller received first team all-conference and first team all-state. St. Regis senior, Madison Hill also received all-state. Other St. Regis girls awarded was not available by press time.

Missing Superior teenager found in Wash.
It was a happy ending to a scary ordeal for Kelsey Ray's parents, Monica and Kevin, after their daughter was reported missing early last week. Sixteen-year-old Ray was picked up by police in Kirkland, Washington early Monday morning at 1 a.m. according to Hugh Hopwood.
School board election results
It might not be November 2, but last Tuesday, Alberton, Superior and St. Regis School Districts held elections for school board trustee positions. Candidates were either elected to a two or three year term. St. Regis also voted on a Building Reserve Levy.
