Clark Fork teams win tournament at Trestle Creek

The Clark Fork Mountain Cats won for both the boys’ and girls’ divisions at the St. Regis Golf Tournament at Trestle Creek on Thursday, May 2, where they qualified four players for state. The boys’ team won with 304, and the girls won with 392. Aaron Waddle, Danner Haskins, Jonna Warnken and Zoe Kelsey qualified for the State C Tournament in Seeley Lake. “We could be very competitive at the State C level in two years with both boys’ and girls’ teams if the kids continue to work hard,” Clark Fork coach Seth Kuhl said. Both from Thompson Falls, Ethan Brown won for the boys’ title with an 85, and Megan Baxter won for the girls with 106. Clark Fork’s Danner Haskins placed third with 97, and Aaron Waddle placed fifth with 103. St. Regis Tiger JD Booker scored 135. The tournament wrapped up the regular season and the State C Tournament is May 13-15 at the Double Arrow Golf Course in Seeley Lake.

Hot Springs hosts Geography Bee

The Hot Springs School held its annual 2015 National Geographic Geography Bee for the fourth through eight graders.  Sixth grader Jesse Uski was the winner, with eight grader Haylee Hoff coming in second and seventh grader Angelica Lopez winning third place.  Each class held its own competition and the top two contestants went on compete in the school wide bee.  The students answered a variety of geographic questions, such as “Which state is known as the Peach State because peaches are one of its major crops:  Hawaii or Georgia?”   The fourth grade competitors were Wyatt Orton and Madeline Grieco.  Seaerra Denny and Kyle Lawson represented the fifth graders and Bella Myton and Jesse Uski were the contestants from sixth grade.  Angelica Lopez and Cameron Stearns were the challengers from seventh grade and Haylee Hoff and Tanner Vadnais were the eighth grade contenders.  Jesse Uski, the winner, will now take a written examination to determine if he can advance to the state competition.  All school champions are eligible to win the national championship and its first place prize, a $50,000 scholarship.

Montana State University Extension Flathead Reservation & Sanders County will be offering the “Master Gardener” program at the Tribal Senior Citizens Building in Hot Springs beginning Wednesday, February 3 and finishing March 31, 2010. Classes will be held on eight consecutive Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Gov. Steve Bullock declared a fire emergency for the state of Montana on July 23. The order cites several active wildfires in the state, “Montana is facing extreme fire conditions,” he states. “Our top priority is ensuring the safety of Montanans, their property, and our communities.”
