As a member of the State Tribal Relations Interim Committee, between now and the next session I will be attending six meetings for updates on tribal issues in the state. Four of those meetings will be held with various tribes across the state.

PLAINS – The Plains Public School District is asking for two levies to be voted on, one for the elementary school in the amount of $35,000 and one for the high school in the amount of $30,000.

School board election results
It might not be November 2, but last Tuesday, Alberton, Superior and St. Regis School Districts held elections for school board trustee positions. Candidates were either elected to a two or three year term. St. Regis also voted on a Building Reserve Levy.

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is conducting a public meeting to discuss a proposal to repair the bridge deck on the bridge crossing the Clark Fork on Montana 135 between Saint Regis and Paradise.
Rummel tentative winner for sheriff
It has been over a week since Election Day, and one part of the ballot still remains undecided. Voting for the role of Sanders County sheriff ended last week with Republican Tom Rummel leading Independent Doug Dryden by a mere six votes. The closeness of this race has meant that a recount is automatically factored in, and preparations for that recount began in the beginning of this week.

The Superior Bobcats went to Frenchtown this last weekend, competed in a couple events, before they all piled back onto the bus to drive back to Superior. The meet got cancelled due to a strike of winter weather.

AG says state will consider funding for PL 280
Whether fueled by election-year largesse or Lake County’s impending withdrawal from Public Law 280, Attorney General Austin Knudsen delivered some long-awaited good news Monday. The office of Gov. Greg Gianforte, he said, “has authorized me to convey to you folks they would sign a bill through the Legislature that provided some law enforcement funding for Lake County.”
