Mineral County Disaster and Emergency Services Coordinator George Gupton was on hand at the Friday meeting of the county commissioners to provide the commissioners with a notice of intent for the Emergency Management Performance Grant and the Homeland Security Grant Program.

Commissioners unanimously approve Tricon's application for a ten-year tax break on equipment and building additions made by company.

T. Falls boys second at Jim Johnson

Spring has arrived and with it the track and field meets in Montana. The first big track meet for many Sanders County teams was recently held and tested the athletes abilities and agility in many different events; running, relays, discus, javelin, hurdles, high kump, pole vault, triple jump, and shot put. The Plains, Hot Springs, Thompson Falls and Noxon track teams were in action on Mar. 30 in Frenchtown at the Jim Johnson Invitational.

Thompson Falls' Burk is a state champ in shot put

All year, Thompson Falls senior Cody Burk has been among the best throwers in Montana and Saturday at the Class B state championships in Laurel, he cemented that status with a state title in the shot put.

Building blown up at old Smurfit-Stone Mill site as deconstruction continues

Explosions could be heard for miles around near the old Smurfit-Stone Mill site located 11 miles northwest of Missoula. Crews set off the explosives to remove one of the buildings being deconstructed on the site on Feb. 1.

Plains and T-Falls athletes shine at local track meet

This may as well have been a preview of next month’s Montana high school track and field postseason as a pair of local teams strutted their stuff at the Thompson Falls Invitational meet this past Tuesday.

Detention-center administrator part of deal to get jail reopened

Discussions continued on Monday, Nov. 13, regarding the closure of the Mineral County jail. After dealing with the resignation of Sheriff Tom Bauer, the Mineral County Commissioners meeting turned to the task of getting the jail reopened.

Plains races to success at Eureka Time Trials

EUREKA – The Plains Trotters and Horsemen track teams got their season underway at the Eureka time trials last weekend.

Superior girls medal at state

The Superior girls were seeing a lot of success as the track season was rolling to a close. They came in second at divisionals and had a group headed to state in numerous events. Yet only two girls took medals at the state track meet that was held this last weekend in Laurel. And it was in the long jump and the triple jump where the two girls shined.

Sanders County Community Calendar

Noxon keeps going despite injuries

Although the Noxon track and field team is struggling with three recent injuries, individual performances show promise in the team’s ability.
