John Russell Johnson was born in Jackson, MN, July 25, 1947, the first son of Robert and Bernice. His brothers are David, Bobbie and Ronnie.  John has four children, Chad, Jonathan, Brianne, Jennifer.

Gary Lee Ovitt

Gary was born in Two Harbors, MN on May 28, 1942 to Wilfred Francis Ovitt and Mary Emma Coleman Ovitt (Pearson). He was second in a line of 13 kids. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on May 19, 2018. He fought a good fight of several health conditions, but finally surrendered to complications of diabetes and heart disease.

Kathryn (Kay) Margaret (Fuchs) Eisenbacher, 62, passed away suddenly Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the Mineral County Hospital of Superior in the loving arms of her husband, Earl.  A funeral Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, March 28, 2011 at St. Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Mission of Superior, MT.  There will also be a memorial service at Our Lady of Lakes Catholic Church of Spicer, MN, in July 2011.

Obituary; Donald Erwin Brown

Donald Erwin Brown, 80, died of natural causes on April 6, 2015 at the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls, MT. He was born November 8, 1934 in Fergus Falls, MN to Arthur L. Brown and Ida (Torvik) Brown. Don attended grade school in Wendell, MN and graduated from high school in Elbow Lake, MN in 1952. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952. After completing basic training in Texas he was stationed in Great Falls MT. He met his wife, Virginia on a blind double date and they were married August 18, 1957 in Great Falls MT. He was stationed in various places around the world. With much pride he enjoyed being a mechanic on the YF12A test plane at Edwards AFB, CA. In 1973 he retired from the Air Force and moved to Plains where he worked at the Diehl Mill, the city of Plains as a maintenance worker, and the Sanders County Road Department. Don was a Life Member of Horse Plains VFW Post #3596 and the American Legion Post #426 of Wendell, MN. He was also past Post Commander of the VFW Post #3596. He enjoyed working on model planes, reading military history, and following his grandchildren with their activities.

Former Plains resident Ken Harvey JR, 71 passed away unexpectedly Oct. 4th 2013 at his home in Walla Walla,WA. He was born in Blackduck, MN. to Kenneth and Dona (Palmer) Harvey. Ken spent the first nine years of his life on their Dairy farm, moving to another farm in Whitefish, MT. for six years. The family moved to Plains in 1956. Ken graduated from Plains High School in 61. During high school, he worked for Don and Betty Coe at the newspaper, The Plainsman (Valley Press) as a linotype operator, Don was a great influence on Ken and he made the newspaper his lifetime career. He joined the Navy in 1964, spending six years furthering his education in Journalism and Photography, stationed in Italy and Greece, After the military, in 1970 Ken returned to Plains for a short time, working again at the Plainsman. Leaving Plains, he worked for newspapers in Great Falls, Rapid City, SD, Scotts Bluff, Neb., Spokane and Walla Walla. WA. where he remained, working for Inland Printing for 25 years, up until his death. Ken became an avid bowler, starting at age 14, while setting pins for the VFW Club in Plains. At age 16 he had the opportunity to bowl professionally, but chose not to. Over the years he bowled three perfect 300 games and many 298 and 299, winning many awards and dozens and dozens of trophies. Years later in a house fire he lost 13 bowling balls. Ken also enjoyed fishing and camping. He was married twice, both ended in divorce. Ken is survived by one daughter Gina Vinson, Olympia,WA., longtime friend and companion Jan Sans, Walla Walla, WA., sisters Katherine Beck, Saint Ignatius, MT., Dena Harvey, Hot Springs, MT., brothers, Dick (Elaine) Point Pleasant NJ., Dave, Plains, several nieces and nephews and many cousins. Ken was proceeded in death by his parents. Services were held in Walla Walla and a memorial will be in Plains this summer.

Shirley Darlene Cave, 71 of Bremerton, died in Tacoma on March 13, 2010. She was born December 13, 1938 in Brainerd, MN to Eino & Dorothy (Steele) Kangas. She married John Ira Cave on November 27, 1954 in Plains, Montana. Shirley graduated from Plain HS in 1955 and attended Olympic College in Bremerton.
