The Sanders County budget has been approved after a couple months of wondering whether or not money would from the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act. The federal subsidy pumped $1.5 million into roads and schools, and its expiration this year forced Sanders County to scramble for money.

Lumber truck overturns near Paradise
Debris from an overturned lumber truck littered Highway 200 in front of Paradise Gardens after an accident on Tuesday just before 2:30 p.m. The wreckage left the highway closed for hours as crews cleaned up the mess.

Arsenic found in Thompson Reservoir
Thompson Falls water problems are raising concern among Thompson Falls residents and Sanders County officials as higher levels of arsenic, copper, lead, zinc and cadmium have been detected in the Clark Fork. In the Clark Fork riverbed, measurements show that the arsenic alone is six times the limit approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Douglas Guill, 56, reportedly told the girl that he was God and could send her to hell. The abuse began when the victim was 6 years old, culminating in three-way sexual intercourse with her father and stepmother.

Fair breaks records again
An estimated 50,000 people came to the Sanders County Fair over the past week, a record number and up almost 15,000 from last year, according to Fair Manager Mike Hashisaki.
