I started out to write about this being a good time of year to be helpful to others and that began to sound so preachy and goody-two-shoes that I thought that maybe I should just thank some people who helped me when I needed it.

Tom, Brandi, and Haylie Wurtz joyfully announce the birth of their son, Clayton Graham Wurtz, on January 21, 2014, in Spokane WA. He weighed 8 pounds and 2 ounces, 20 inches long. His maternal grandparents are Jim and Melanie Moore of Coeur d’Alene. His parental grandparents are Sue Miekle of Plains and Tom Wurtz Sr. of Janesville WI. Great Grandpa is Fred Mielke of Plains.

Elise weighed 5 pounds, 5 ounces and Ella weighed 5 pounds, 11 ounces. Parents are Daylen and Anna Dupuis of Polson. Paternal grandparents are Kendall and Linda Dupuis of Polson. Maternal grandparents are Nardy and Gloria Stascavage of Plains. Great-grandparents are Oliver and Lois Dupuis of Polson and Jim and Lou Duford of Ronan.

Claire Nicole Kuehn was born on December 13, 2014, at 2:18 p.m. at Community Medical Center in Missoula.  She weighed 5 pounds and 10 ½ ounces and was 19 inches long.  Parents are Jared and Tiffany Kuehn of Missoula.  Maternal grandparents are Cliff and Suzann Quale of Plains.  Paternal grandparents are Jim and Jennifer Kuehn of Missoula.  Maternal great-grandparents are Glenn and Mary Quest of Hysham.  Paternal great-grandma is Margie Rohwer of Thompson Falls.

G.B. Shaw comedy hits the stage in Superior

George Bernard Shaw’s Comedy “You Never Can Tell” came to the stage at the Mineral County Fairgrounds on Wednesday evening. Jim Goss with the Mineral County Performing Arts said they were worried about holding the event outside because of the smoke from area wildfires. However, when show time came at 6 p.m., the afternoon breeze had cleared the air and people brought lawn chairs, blankets and sat on bleachers to enjoy the show.

Hikes to start in April

After a successful Hospital Hiking program last year, the group has put together another one this year with approximately 30 hikes planned starting in mid-April until mid-September. The program is partnered with the Montana Wilderness Association and the Great Burn Study Group with hiking sticks available thanks to Roger Hearst.

SUPERIOR – In an intense rivalry game between Superior and St. Regis, it was clear the winner would be a cat; the only question was how long the tail would be. In the end, the Superior Lady Bobcats were inched out in the double overtime match up.

Burn permits extedned until end of June

Fire Managers are extending all burn permits issued from the Superior Ranger Station through Monday June 28, 2010. "Predictions of precipitation for the next couple weeks should give homeowners more time to get their spring cleaning done," says Jim Ward, AFMO. After June 28th, all burn permits will be voided and no burning will be allowed. Already, this burn season, Volunteer Fire Departments and Forest Service have responded to three burns that escaped the homeowner's control.

Fire danger remains very high

MINERAL COUNTY - According to Forest Service authorities, the fire danger in Mineral County remains at the very high level and stage 1 restrictions remain in place. According to Forest Service Fire Prevention Officer Jim Ward, “There is no change to our drought status over the last week, the current U. S. Drought Monitor shows that we are still in extreme drought and shows impacts may be short and long term.”

Public library an asset to the town

When Judy and I came to settle in the Plains area, we had the checklist of important places to locate and become familiar with. Upon finding the library, we relaxed and agreed: Plains, now this is an all-inclusive town.
